Free ICT Support/Training added 7.3.08
An opportunity to access free ICT training via the Sussex Community Internet Project (SCIP) and the government’s ‘Netgain’ scheme (www.net-gain.org.uk ). Groups that request training before Easter will get a subsidy. The project is particularly aimed at smaller groups. Once a number of Worthing-based groups are registered SCIP will arrange a half day introductory workshop to provide each group with a chance to review their IT needs and prepare a simple IT action plan. Once groups have been on the workshop SCIP gets their subsidy. SCIP are then committed to providing six hours of support to each group. These hours can be used ‘one-to-one’ on any of their services, or they could be pooled and turned into group workshops (e.g. on using excel, databases etc). For example, if 6 groups sign up there would be a budget of 36 hours between them -this would translate into 9 three-hour workshops (SCIP ‘charge’ 4 hours to deliver a 3-hour workshop). Signing up will commit groups to attending the introductory workshop (to allow SCIP to draw down the monies). Beyond that meeting the balance of ‘one-to-one’ or ‘pooled’ (training workshop) hours could be collectively discussed (e.g. suggest split of 2/4 hours respectively?). Application forms available from: Mark Walker, SCIP, Community Base, Queens Road, Brighton BN1 3XG, Tel: 01273 234049, Email: mark.walker@scip.org.uk
